Students vs. Faculty for Alyssa’s Angels
Shore Regional Interact Service Organization sponsored the annual Student vs Faculty Basketball game for charity last week and the students were not letting the faculty have the upperhand this time.
Students took an early lead with a 6-0 score in the first two minutes and despite the efforts of Guidance Counselor Aaron Edward and English teacher Chris Schuster students ended the first quarter with an 11-5 score. The students continued to rack up the points with contributions from Andy Swinton, Vito Merla, Kyle Alteneu, Dennis Galvin and Kerri Sullivan. Jeff Labush, Maureen Marz, Jason Vastano, Dave Porta and Kristine Romans all scored points for the faculty.
The score was secondary to the reason they were all there. The Interact club, under the leadership of Advisors Andrew Ker and Nicole Andreassi chose local charity Alyssa’s Angels as the recipient of the monies raised. Alyssa’s Angels along with the West Long Branch Recreation Commission are raising funds to build a barrier free playground at Conway Park in the borough. The playground will be accessible for children with challenges to enjoy along side other children. Equipment would be barrier free and every child wouldhave the opportunity to enjoy the facility without limitations.
The final score 50-34 gave the students bragging rights; however the real winner was Alyssa’s Angels who will receive approximately $2000 from the fundraiser.
